PRESENTATION:

Efficient Lateral Load Resisting Systems for Low-Rise Buildings

PRESENTED BY:

Patrick McManus, PE, PhD
Martin/Martin

DESCRIPTION:

This session will provide practical advice to help the engineer in their decision making process when selecting appropriate steel lateral systems. The positives and negatives of different solutions will be discussed and highlight the following topics:
  • Review the basics of steel lateral braced frame and moment frame systems
  • Cost implications, lateral load path and design considerations
  • Overview and case study on steel lateral system selection in low seismic and high seismic zones
  • Considerations for use of high seismic systems in low and moderate seismic areas
  • Selected lateral system connection considerations and detailing
